93 National Memorial Fund --
SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- An encore presentation of THE
FLIGHT THAT FOUGHT BACK will air Saturday, November 26 at 9 PM (ET/PT) on
Discovery Channel. Discovery Communications, Inc., is donating money from
retail purchases during the week of September 11, 2005, and all DVDs of THE
FLIGHT THAT FOUGHT BACK -- totaling more than $135,000 and growing -- to the
Flight 93 National Memorial Fund.
The film details the final moments of United Airlines Flight 93 as 33
passengers and seven crew members on board fought to regain control of the
aircraft that was hijacked, rerouted toward Washington, D.C., and crashed in
Somerset County, Pa., on September 11, 2001.
Families of the heroes aboard Flight 93 provided Discovery Channel with
rarely heard phone messages from that day and offered reflections on how they
believe loved ones would have responded to the situation. THE FLIGHT THAT
FOUGHT BACK featured the widest range of interviews with family members ever
assembled, including many never-before-seen personal and eyewitness accounts.
"We received an overwhelming response from viewers who were moved by the
actions of the 40 heroes aboard Flight 93," said Judith A. McHale, president
and CEO, Discovery Communications. "We are proud to tell their story and make
a contribution to the memorial dedicated to these heroes."
THE FLIGHT THAT FOUGHT BACK ranks as the highest rated program on
Discovery Channel in 2005, reaching 7 million homes. The DVD was a best
seller for Discovery.com.
The Flight 93 National Memorial will reside in a national park at the
crash site near Shanksville, Pa. In addition to DVD and retail sales,
Discovery Communications created public service announcements encouraging
viewers to donate to the Flight 93 National Memorial fund. One of the PSAs
featured Sarah Wainio, the sister of Honor Elizabeth Wainio who was a
Discovery Communications employee aboard Flight 93.
Discovery commissioned London-based Brook Lapping Productions (BLP), an
Emmy(R) Award-winning production company with an international reputation for
accuracy, to research and present the remarkable story of THE FLIGHT THAT
FOUGHT BACK.
